Charger’s Curse Continues – Verrett Lost for Season

The Chargers continue to lament the summer as the injury curse which has ravaged their roster for years continues, losing their second potential break-out player before the team even puts on pads. Jason Verrett, who had flashed lock-down corner potential when healthy, tore his Achilles during a conditioning Friday and will likely miss the 2018 season. Initially reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Verrett suffered this “freak and ridiculous injury” on reporting day during conditioning test which is typically uneventful.

Verrett, who flashed star-potential during his lone healthy season in 2015 has suffered several serious knee injuries and now will have to overcome yet another season-ender before the season even begins. For the Chargers the loss comes as a huge blow to what was shaping up to be a stacked secondary, as well as to their overall roster which already lost a crucial piece in Hunter Henry on the first day of OTAs.

Chargers fans are no stranger to these heartbreaking injuries as they have witnessed them occur in mass for years, often competing with other teams for most players on injured reserve. They begin training camp this season with two already on the list.
