Win or Go Home: The Prediction

Wildcard weekend: Colts vs. Texans

Last Meeting (Week 14: December 9th, 2018 in Houston, Texas. Colts def. Texans 24-21)

Season Series split 1-1.

I heard someone quote, “Get Deshaun Watson in the playoffs!”

Well Texan fans, you officially got it!

Deshaun Watson will be making his playoff debut as the Houston Texans quarterback later on today as the Texans take on Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts.

I don’t think I have to tell anyone this but this game has all the makings of a classic. Two great QBs take each other on at the biggest stage of them all. It’s win or go home for both the Texans and the Colts.

Both teams are insanely hot coming into this one. The Colts have won 9 of their last 10 games while the Texans have won 11 of their last 13 games. When two hot teams come together an explosion is due to happen! Let’s take a look at the numbers!

Colts: 7th total yards, 5th points scored, 6th passing yards, 20th rushing yards. (Offense)

11th total yards, 10th points allowed, 16th passing yards allowed, 8th rushing yards allowed (Defense)

Texans: 16th total yards, 11th points scored, 17th passing yards, 8th rushing yards. (Offense)

12th total yards allowed, 4th points allowed, 28th passing yards allowed, 3rd rushing yards allowed. (Defense)

From a numbers standpoint, the Colts have an advantage. The biggest mismatch is that the Colts are ranked 6th in passing yards while the Texans are ranked 28th in passing yards allowed. Andrew Luck combined for over 700 passing yards in two meetings against the Texans this season. It’s safe to say that he will have once again another dominant passing performance today.

If the Colts want to win:

They will need to pressure Deshaun Watson and pressure him often. It hasn’t been difficult pressuring Watson this season, as he leads the NFL in sacks allowed. Not giving Watson the opportunity to make plays is the key to shutting the Texans offense down and advancing into the second around.

Let Andrew Luck be himself. He is a top QB in the NFL on the brink of elite status. Letting him go out and play football, as well as keeping him clean from J.J. Watt and Jadaveon Clowney, will increase his chances of winning this football game.

If the Texans want to win:

They must keep Deshaun Watson up float. When Watson has a clean pocket, he is among the best in the NFL. Other teams know that, so expect the Colts to send the house at him all game in order to stop him. If they can’t, Watson will tear the Colts defense up, and the Texans will win.

STOP T.Y. HILTON. It seems as if the owner of the NRG Stadium resides on the Indianapolis Colts. T.Y. Hilton has owned the Texans every time he has stepped into NRG Stadium. Last time he was there in week 14, he had 199 receiving yards. The Texans must find a way to slow him down.

Limit Luck. I know that the Texans will not be able to slow down Andrew Luck. I don’t think nobody in the NFL can. But if they can force a few turnovers and make the stops when they need to, I believe that will be enough for the Texans to travel to New England next weekend.

My Prediction

The two games played this season between these teams were both decided by 3 points. This game will be just like those two. The Texans will of course give their fans a mini heart attack. However, this game will be decided by whoever has the ball last, which will be Deshaun Watson. Watson will lead the Texans into the second round of the playoffs to face another legend in Tom Brady next week.

FINAL SCORE: Colts 24 Texans 30
