Glendale Raptors vs. Houston Sabercats Exhibition Game 2

I’m back!

Back to you covering my second love, RUGBY!

Tonight in this disrespectful windy weather, the Glendale Raptors take on the Houston Sabercats at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas.

The game started with Houston making a field goal taking an early 3-0 lead. Glendale stuck back quickly, scoring a try and taking a 7-3 lead.

Glendale continued to apply pressure on the Sabercats 27 minutes into the first half, the Raptors scored another try, taking a 12-6 lead. The lead would continue to get stronger as five minutes later the Raptors marched down to score another try with a 19-6 lead.

The Sabercats were able to stop the bleeding, scoring and going into the half with a 19-11 lead.

As a Houston native, I know I am supposed to be rooting for the Sabercats. However, let me tell you, Glendale defense is MEAN! As a fan of some good rugby, I can always respect a team who is stingy on defense. Twice in the second half, the Sabercats threatened to score a try. They were literally inches away from the trial line, the tip of the rugby ball was begging to to touch the line it was that close. However, the Glendale Raptors consistently stood them up, preventing them from scoring any points and getting the ball from their territory.

The Sabercats were eventually able to put points on the scoreboard, scoring 3 points on the penalty kick trailing 19-14. Glendale was about to respond quickly, scoring another try and extending their lead 26-14.

Things started to get ugly for the Sabercats in the 2nd half. Perhaps it was the weather but injuries began to happen and people were started to get winded. The Raptors begin going down the field and scoring at will. In a matter of minutes, the Raptors scored 17 unanswered points, leading the Sabercats 36-14. Eventually, the Sabercats were able to stop the bleeding, scoring a try and trailing 36-21. It was too little too late as they scored with a couple of minutes left in the game.

For the Cats, they let the game get away from them, wasting too many opportunities. They missed on scoring twice in the Raptors territory. If they want to have a better season than last, then they must focus on capitalizing on opportunities like this.
