Preseason Game #3: Texans vs. Cowboys

ANALYSIS Houston Sports NFL

The stars at night, are BIG AND BRIGHT! Dum! Dum! Dum! Dum!

Deep in the heart, of Texas!

Tonight is the battle for the Lone Star State, preseason edition! The Texans travel into Jerry’s world tonight to take on the Dallas Cowboys for their third preseason game. As we all know, the third preseason game is usually the game where the starters see the most playing time. If you are looking to get more of a feel or an evaluation of what to expect from your favorite football team, you’re likely to get it from watching the third preseason game.

The Cowboys are a great test in the preseason. Not only do they have a good offensive line, but they have a good defensive line as well. This is a great opportunity for the Texans to get work on both sides on the ball before the real season. Here is what I am looking for in this game.

Offensive Line

As mentioned earlier, the Cowboys defensive line is a great test for this young offensive line. The Texans line performed well vs the Lions, but we can all agree that the Cowboys defense is better. I am interested in seeing how players like Roderick Johnson and Max Scharping perform tonight in their biggest test thus far.

Deandre Carter

Carter performed well last week against Detroit. He has another opportunity to add onto his good training camp with the way he performs tonight against Dallas. With Keke Coutee looking to miss the first couple of games in the regular season, Carter will be an essential piece to the Texans offense as they look to replace him.

The 5th WR Battle

At this point in the preseason, the 5th WR spot is either going to Tyron Johnson, Vyncint Smith, or Steven Mitchell. Each player have their own skill set, so this game will be crucial for them to find some separation in the battle. The first preseason game, Johnson separated himself. Last week, Smith closed the gap between him and Johnson. Mitchell adds another slot presence that the Texans like. Who will take advantage of tonight’s opportunity?

The 3rd RB Battle

Much like the WR battle, the 3rd RB spot has yet to be determined. Damarea Crockett, Karon Higdon, and now Buddy Howell has put together a good training camp. This is a good problem for the Texans to have. However, which RB will take control of the lead to make this roster?

That is all I have for now. I’ll see you tonight for the results of the game. Go Texans!
