Joyce Kennerson is making her return back to the hardwood court. After sitting out the previous two seasons, Kennerson announced her decision to transfer to the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff in an Instagram post published on Saturday.
The Port Arthur native spent her first three years of eligibility with the Texans Southern University Lady Tigers — where she won the SWAC Player of the Year award in 2018.
During her final season with the Lady Tigers, Kennerson led TSU to a 19-13 (13-5) record while earning a trip to the 2018 Women’s Basketball Invitational. She became one of the top collegiate players in the country averaging a career-high 24.1 points and 1.8 steals through 28 games played.
Kennerson led the nation in scoring for much of 2017-18 season, moving atop the chart with a 26.6-point per game average following a 33-point outing against Paul Quinn College. She last played during TSU’s 70-42 victory over Alabama State, where Kennerson posted 27 points shooting 50% from the field and four steals.
In three short seasons, the upcoming senior guard has recorded a total of 1,440 career points (17.1 PPG), shooting 40.2% from the field in 84 career games for the Lady Tigers.
