On Sunday, the Houston Astros announced their initial Player Pool of 56 players ahead of the 2020 MLB season. First-year general manager James Click conducted a list of 30 pitchers and 26 position players headlined by Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman and Justin Verlander.
The Astros Player Pool is set to report to Spring Training this Friday but will be split between Minute Maid Park and the University of Houston — according to reports. The player pools can consist of as many as 60 players, but the Astros only named 56.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, if a player is placed on IR, he will not count against Houston’s 56-man roster. However, if the Astros decides to sign a replacement, then the player will be subject to removal rule.
