Houston Rockets: Houston to hire Stephen Silas as next head coach

After two months of deliberation, the Houston Rockets have hired Stephen Silas as their next head coach to replace D’Antoni.

The Houston Rockets coaching search is now over. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Rockets are finalizing a deal to hire Stephen Silas as their next head coach. Silas was hired over former head coach Jeff Van Gundy and current player development coach John Lucas.

Silas began his coaching career as an assistant for the Charlotte/New Orleans Hornets from 1999-2003. Since he has had five different stops around the league as an assistant, most recently with the Dallas Mavericks from 2018-2020. This will be Silas’ first job as head coach.

Throughout his career, Silas has coached some exceptional guards which includes Luka Doncic, Kemba Walker and Stephen Curry. Now he will have a chance to coach a team that features James Harden and Russell Westbrook.
